2019 HR Support Staff of the Year Award - Householder

Holland, MI- Heidi Householder, human resources representative for Ottawa Area ISD and a 29-year employee, has been named the 2019 Outstanding Human Resources Support Staff Person of the Year by the Michigan Association of School Personnel Administrators (MASPA). The award recognizes an individual who has significantly impacted and provided outstanding support for the HR department.

Deputy Superintendent for Operations for OAISD, Julie Gillespie, said Householder is a dedicated employee and the true definition of a “team-player”. “Heidi has worked hard to streamline processes for staff including training, fingerprinting, and substitute teacher coordination. She has adapted to the many changes our industry has experienced with minimal impact to those she serves. We are so thankful she is part of our team, and we all congratulate her on this wonderful recognition by her peers.”

Householder is intricately involved in processing fingerprints for internal and external employees, and has taken on a leadership role in seamlessly approving over 2,500 substitute teachers per year in coordination with EduStaff. She recently assisted in creating a new coding system for staff onboarding that drastically diminished confusion and created a better line of communication between departments. She also works closely with the Michigan State Police to ensure OAISD is compliant with all Criminal History Record Information handling. Other responsibilities include pulling permits for staff members, assisting with insurance benefit questions, recruitment and hiring, and tuition reimbursement.

OAISD Human Resources Coordinator and co-worker Heather Visco said Householder excels at helping employees with questions and finding answers. “Heidi has a deep and thorough understanding of many HR issues, not only those specific to OAISD employees but issues related to HR regulations and best practices. Our organization is better because of Heidi.”
